The Situation
People in the Bay Area love their farmers' markets. At the top of these ubiquitous locovore havens sits the queen of all foodie emporiums: the Ferry Building. And while you think you may know the Ferry Building from the inside and out, a tour with Edible Excursions will take you behind the scenes and give you a truly intimate look at this one-of-a-kind food mecca. Samples (and a lot of them) included.
The Lowdown
Edible Excursions was created by Lisa Rogovin, whose experience working for Gourmet Magazine and the Four Seasons Hotel eventually led her to start her own culinary tour business. Operated out of her Noe Valley home, this business eventually evolved into a now highly-acclaimed series of Bay Area foodie excursions. The Ferry Building Marketplace Tour is one of the most touted tours on the list. Led by Lisa or one of her qualified epicurean concierges, a group of 10 or so food lovers will be directed through aisles of fresh, local goods, while also being introduced to many of the specialty farmers selling the best fruits, flowers, vegetables, herbs, preserves and chutneys their land has to offer. And that's just outside! The Ferry Building itself could be considered the heart of the Bay Area food scene - and you'll get a chance to explore this culinary world in a whole new way. Enjoy meet and greats with local business representatives and taste their finest wares. Depending on the season, flavor experiences may include: celebrity chef Chris Cosentino's house cured fennel salame and freshly made mortadella at Boccalone Salumeria; award-winning, organic cheeses from Cowgirl Creamery; the best French macarons in California from Miette Patisserie; artisanal chocolates from Recchiuti Confections and Scharffen Berger where guests learn the difference between chocolatier and chocolate maker; freshly baked Frog Hollow Farm tartlets made with seasonal fruits and vegetables grown on their farm in Brentwood, California; pickled vegetables from Happy Girl Kitchen; organic preserves from June Taylor (Saturdays); and pours from the Ferry Plaza Wine Merchant (Tuesdays).
Forward it to a friend who's new to HomeRun. We'll track it. If they buy, you win!
